Dr. Drew Shindell, a leading global scientist based at Duke University. shares that stopping emissions of natural gas (methane) – a super-potent heat trapper – could “give the world a fighting chance” to prevent “catastrophic global warming” from becoming irreversible.
However, in each of the 4 “carbon plan” proposals, Duke Energy CEO Lynn Good and company include at least 8,800 MW of new natural gas-fired power – dozens of units – by 2050. (See Table E-71, p. 77, sum of combustion turbine (CT) and combined cycle (CC) columns.) dismissing Dr. Shindell’s findings as reported in his UN-backed study of May 2021 and his May 2022 study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
As Dr. Shindell and 40 EPA retirees have told Gov. Roy Cooper, all his climate efforts will be outmatched if Duke Energy keeps expanding the use of natural gas.
Join the rally today at 8am or tune into live-stream which begins 9am Tuesday
